COVID-19 is something none of us could have expected. Many of us have had our jobs affected, whether you were laid off, or told that your position was furloughed until further notice. Whatever the case may be, financial assistance can be helpful. I wanted to share some resources that may be useful during this difficult time. Each state and county has different provisions they are making for their residents. Because I reside in Houston, I will be listing the information I have found for my area. Depending on where you reside, you will need to reach out to the agencies in your specific areas.
Rent/Mortgage:
The clip above is from local news KHOU 11 in Houston, where I reside. Each state & county has different provisions they are making for residents. Start with your speaking directly to your landlord if you’re renting, and your bank if you’re paying a mortgage.
Many of them have already made provisions for those of us impacted, and they need to be notified that you need assistance. As the video stated, some are working out payment arrangements with tenants & waiving late fees. If you’re paying a mortgage, the bank may be postponing payments or offering alternative payment options. The best thing to do is contact them as soon as possible and find out what is being offered in your area.
Food, Shelter, etc:

The link above is for 211 Texas. Each state has one of these numbers setup for their specific state. This is where you should start if you need assistance with finding shelter, food pantries, utility payment and assistance, SNAP or food stamps, and much more. When you call, they will ask for your zip code, and give you the numbers to the organizations in your area that can assist with these needs. This is also the number to answer any questions you may have about COVID-19, and updates in your city for mandated orders, and laws in your area regarding COVID-19.
We are all facing this together. I hope this information was helpful. Pass it along to someone you know that may need it. Please email me or comment if you know of additional information that I do not have listed, and I’ll be sure to share it. Stay safe out there🙂
